The Challenge

As commercial flight enters its second century, airlines must adopt the digital operation requirements of an ever-increasing fleet performance offered by e-enabled and "connected" aircraft.

Our goal, in line with IATA's paperless aircraft operations initiative, was to look for efficiencies in technical operations, and provide airlines with a dynamic solution that would meet and streamline their specific daily MRO and ground operations requirements.

Key Aims

  • To streamline the ground operations and MRO supply chain process, thereby reducing costs and promoting more efficiency.
  • To provide integration capability with MRO, EFB,Flight Control, Crew, Scheduling, HR, Fuel and IOT Systems.
  • To simplify the life of technicians and aircraft cockpit and cabin crews with regard to all flows in line maintenance.
  • To provide role and definition flexibility so that if need be, certain actions can also be carried out by cockpit and / or cabin crew.
  • To reduce regulatory penalties resulting from non-compliant documentation.
  • To reduce costs from errors in documentation.
  • To reduce paper consumption.

What We Developed

Pi-Tech is mobile solution, with special machine learning algorithms, that can provide integration capability with MRO, EFB, Flight Control, Crew, Scheduling, HR, Fuel and IOT Systems for up to the minute, online and offline data transmission.

Pi-Tech serves holistic information on airframes and flights to all related airport operations teams, providing a very high level of coordination and awareness between cockpit crew, cabin crew, technicians, and shift leaders.

Pi-Tech provides the correct information to the right teams at the right time, by monitoring the on-field situation on a technician and job basis; where Daily Check information and requirements are fed into Pi-Tech by the airline MRO System and back into the MRO system once fulfilled.

A backend web application for use by System Administrators was developed, to enable them to assign technicians to aircraft as well as define all related ground operations processes and definitions, including user roles and access privileges.

Key Features

  • Resource planning.
  • Carry out pre-flight checks.
  • Aircraft servicing > fuel / fluid uplift.
  • Defect entry / diagnosis - standardisation of defects.
  • Special machine learning algorithms reduce unnecessary effort.
  • Structural damage list access.
  • Component swaps.
  • Digital signatures and electronic maintenance record keeping.
  • MEL support

Pi-Tech is a solution that can help airlines potentially achieve the following business results.

  • Cost reductions as a result of streamlined technical processes and reduction in manual errors.
  • Cost reduction due to the elimination of logbook printing expenses.
  • Decrease in fuel costs due to reduction in aircraft weight as a result of eradicating physical logbooks.
  • Reduction in archiving costs and man hours associated with the task.
  • Improved on time performance due to reduction in technical delays.
  • Significant cost optimisation annually.
  • Environmental sustainability due to reduction in use of paper.
